Making Chocolate American (Research Presentation)

Cathy KoonarHWP affliate, Catherine Koonar recently presented her work on the Hershey Company at the annual conference of the Association for the Study of Food and Society on June 25 in Toronto.  Her project explores the ways in which carefully constructed narratives not only “made chocolate American” but also distanced chocolate production from the exploitative labour used in cocoa cultivation in the Global South as well as the ways in which it extricated itself from “the history of American industrial capitalism.”
